Check the jack before you swap your tyres over
If you intend to do the seasonal tyre changeover on your car yourself, you should make sure you're using a strong enough jack. Some jacks are only suitable for emergencies, and should not be used for full seasonal tyre changeovers.
Check the capacity of your jack
Many cars come with a spare wheel and wheel change equipment as standard, although sometimes you have to buy these. Did you know that some of these jacks are only suitable for changing one damaged wheel, and are not suitable for extended use?
To be sure of the capacity of your jack, check your car’s manual or ask the dealer.
Choose the right jack
If you intend to do the seasonal tyre changeover on your car yourself, you must follow the procedure recommended by the manufacturer, using tools suitable for the purpose.
The safest way is to use a jack that meets the requirements specified in standard NS-EN 1494: 2000 + A1:2008).
Dangerous jacks
Occasionally, jacks that do not meet the standard are found on the market. Jacks that have been withdrawn from the market are logged on DSB’s product database.
